This gallery is a melange of my photography styles as well as a glimpse into my daily life. It's also part of a delightfully fun Daily Photo community that has introduced me to photo-friends all over the US and in some foreign countries as well.

For years I would see something and say, "That would make a great picture." Now with this project, I have an excuse to stop and take more of those pictures. Please add your comments and let me know what you like and don't like, vote for your favorites with the thumbs up and thumbs down icon, and add suggestions for next time.

I welcome you to my world -- one shutter click at a time.

The Hostesses with the Mostesses

Family and friends congregated in Dallas this weekend to surprise my mother and celebrate her 70th birthday. (Oops -- sorry mom -- now the world knows your age.) Penny and Olivia made sure that every detail was perfect.

More fun with filters.

When my nearly 92-year-old grandmother stops in the driveway to shoot baskets, it's a good thing to have a camera nearby. And yes -- once we cranked the goal low enough, she did score!

Okay -- so it was really a very lousy picture to begin with, but there was something I liked about this shot of my cousins (sisters) enjoying a glass of wine together. Started playing with filters and came up with this.

Angel Scrabble

You are looking at one of my favorite Christmas gifts ever. I absolutely love to play Scrabble. Some days I'm pretty good at it, and other days I can't get past words like fat, tar, rim, and the like.

Aside from playing the game, I just love how the smooth wooden tiles feel in my hands while I sift through them contemplating my next move. So a few years ago, when I opened my Christmas present and it was a bowl full of Scrabble tiles, I was thrilled. Mike had bought at least four or five games to get enough letters to fill a little crystal bowl. No gameboard -- just a bowl full of letters.

I've kept it on my desk ever since, like a wordsmith's little zen garden. Sometimes I leave out a new vocabulary word, other times a cryptic messages for those who enter my office when I'm not around. Occasionally my co-workers play with them or play jokes like removing all the vowels.

And once in a great while the angels visit to play, reminding us to be in awe of the season.

Maybe diamonds really are overrated after all.

Keep a candle burning.

It's hard to belive that not too many years ago, a single candle in the window could signal a warm welcome to travelers -- whether they were family or strangers. The candle meant a warm meal, a good night's sleep, and the company of good people. Most of all, it meant safety and a place of rest.

Today -- I like the somehat parallel and quasi-eternal words of Tom Bodette, . . . "We'll keep the light on for ya."

It's never too late if you're coming home.

Grace under Fire

Anne V. Ridings made this world a much better place with her grit and determination, generosity, creative talent, wit, encouragement ... and that delightful British accent.

Annie's Bosom Buddies all over the world -- from Houston to London to Australia and places in between -- have a heavy heart today. She completed her tasks on December 10, 2007 and we will all miss her terribly.

How Low Can You Go?

Long distance runners are not just fast, they're limber too. The Cross Country athletic banquet was a mix of Hawaiian Luau and Carribbean Whatever. In any case it was fun to see these kids and their parents take off their shoes and play together one more time this year. For some, the basic Limbo simply doesn't present enough of a challenge, so the potplant stayed onboard for several more rounds. I just love the look on my friend's face when she saw that he actually made it!

Got Bassoon?
(from the sticker on the rear window of her car -- I'm not that original)

Oh what fun we had on Saturday shooting senior pictures. This is from my first run-through of the batch. I've been so busy living life, working and being a mom that I am just now starting pp on them -- but HAD to find something new and beautiful to post for today. No touch ups. All you need is a sparkly girl with a sparkly dress and an exotic instrument.

And of course a sparkly photographer doesn't hurt a bit! (Yeah, right)

This is only one of the many fun fun faces we managed to capture. What a blast it is to shoot these kids who have so many interests, talents, and activities. I love it I love it I love it!
