This gallery is a melange of my photographic styles as well as a look into my daily life. I try to capture something new every day or else to find something that fits the day. It's a great excuse to carry my camera with me more often than not, and it allows me to stop and take those pictures that need to be taken.

This morning I went to a memorial/commital service for a friend who died last month. Today was to have been her 31st wedding anniversary, and she was reunited with her husband at Houston's National Veterans' Cemetery.

After the service, I spent a little time walking and taking pictures. A gray sky, brown grass, multiple construction projects, and the last remaining artificial Christmas flowers made it a challenge to get any of the pristine images I had anticipated.

My other favorite shot from yesterday's walk. This bird photography is tougher than it looks! I think I need more practice before I start talking about equipment again. Talk is cheap anyway. Equipment . . . not so cheap.

Hey Sweetie! Been playin' in Mama's Maybelline today?

I'm in awe of the blue ring around this dove's eyes. Never would have seen it before.

Sometimes I wonder why God would put such a striking touch on an otherwise plain old grey dove. Then, I remember that He told us to consider the lilies of the field and the birds of the air, and to remember how much more important to Him we are than they -- and still, He robes them in splendor. He reminded me today not to worry about things that are out of my control -- to put them in His hands.

The past few days have been hard. I needed this afternoon's walk. The weather today was GORGEOUS, so I took advantage of it to walk along the bayou and try out my new 2x extender with my 70-200 2.8. Chores didn't get done, and the difficult issues have not resolved themselves. Still, I think the walk and time alone outside were good for me.

Kowa - Bunga - DOOD!
Last night I shot my first wrestling match. As with my first time for other sports, I learned so much from my files that I just can't wait for my next event.

Before this year, I used to go to sporting events to just hang out, visit with friends, and watch the people. I'd cheer if our team was doing well, but usually because other people started cheering first. Now that I have a chance to photograph the action, I'm so sorry that I haven't been a sports fan all my life. Why didn't anybody ever tell me this stuff was so exciting? I have gained a whole new respect and affinity for all sorts of athletes, their talents, and their games.

"Please, put down that camera and feed me. Is that asking too much?"

The world really does look different from our pets' perspective. Hmmm . . . as long as I'm down here, what else can I shoot?

Just realized something . . . Perhaps this was inspired somehow by Laura's very cute doggie series. Hope you don't mind, Laura.

GEEZER AND THE STUDS made their Rock Band debut yesterday afternoon in our gameroom. This is my dear sweet "old rocker" hubby with 60% of our progeny. So much for Silent Night.

On the Twelfth Day of Christmas . . .

You guessed it. All of our Christmas decorations are still up. In fact, we've postponed the bulk of our celebrations until today because for the first time in five or six years we will have all of our kids in the same place at one time. I think it's worth the wait.

Now . . . back to the 12th day. We've always kept our decorations up until the 12th night, My German daddy wouldn't have had it any other way. It also gives us an opportunity to relax rather than scramble to clean and re-organize so quickly.

Today is known as Epiphany. It marks discoveries and new beginnings and is day many people traditionally celebrate the arrival of the Maggi who brought gifts for the Christ Child. The little Holy Family probably used those precious and costly gifts to survive when they fled to Egypt where they hid from King Herod.

By coincidence, or perhaps by Divine guidance -- and on more than one occasion -- it was Jan 6 when I traveled to distant places and started new chapters of my life. The journeys were difficult and frightening but still filled with hope. Above all, they were wrapped with protection -- and they did bring more blessings than I can count.

So . . . What will this Epiphany bring for our family and for yours? I'm trusting once again for good things, for fresh beginnings and bright wide horizons.

HAH -- I Laugh in the face of danger , cold, and neglect.

Tough little buggers! These Gerberas hardly bloomed all summer because it rained all the time and we never dried out enough. Now when half the world is frozen (not here) they're going strong.

Bok Choy Chop -- Shrimp stir fry for dinner last night.

I've always been taught that it's very important to cook your stir fry at the absolute last minute to keep everything fresh and crisp. Nothing goes into the pan until everyone is home and has heard the "five minute warning" for dinner.

When hubby and son came in they laughed because there was mom with the tripod set up in the kitchen again. I did this all with the natural light rather than a flash because I wanted to drag the knife through the frame and show motion. Not so wild about the color, but this isn't touched up at all. If anyone has pointers to get a better effect, I'd love to hear. I'm guessing that it would involve setting the second curtain flash and still using a long exposure. If you're a master of that, will you share your recipe with me?

There hasn't been anything cooked here in a long time. The barbeque pit at the old homeplace. This is a rediscovered shot from the Post-Thanksgiving barn cleaning day.
