This gallery is a melange of my photographic styles as well as a look into my daily life. I try to capture something new every day or else to find something that fits the day. It's a great excuse to carry my camera with me more often than not, and it allows me to stop and take those pictures that need to be taken.

Celery

Every April and October the sun that comes through my kitchen window at supper fixing time is so blinding that I have been known to cook with sunglasses on. We've planted a passion vine that provides some shade, but when the windows are dirty -- as they usually are, the light is fantastic. After I cut yesterday's pepper and noticed that it literally glowed, I couldn't resist playing around some more. The tripod in the kitchen studio is not an uncommon site.

Flowers in the Rain. This was another experiment for my class. It involved setting the sprinkler and shooting the "rain" falling on some flowers. I can see potential in the techniques, but will want to practice more. It was so windy that my camera and I took a few unintentional drops. We'll have to try this one again.

Microfiber cloth to the rescue!

Austin

The other day I got to shoot senior portraits of another amazing student. I just can't say enough good things about this young man (and his mom). I'm doing a little processing today so that I can get the proofs posted. What a fun afternoon!

Looking up and spinning around. I took this earlier in the week, but saved it for the 25th which would have been my dad's 78th birthday. He's been gone for more than 16 years, but I still miss him -- some days more than others.

If he can look down and see us sometimes, for the most part I believe, he would be pleased.

Happy birthday Daddy.

There has to be something pithy to say about a bucket full of well-used baseballs, but I don't know what it would be. Maybe it's just late and my brain is turned off. Still, I love this shot for a computer wallpaper or background art.

Ulysses stops by for quick snack.

Gail, does your book include Texas woodpeckers? (EDIT -- Oops! It was Andrea that got the bird book as a recent gift. My error)

Zoom -- The Aloe's in Bloom

This is one of several different effects I am working with in my class. For this shot, I set up the tripod directly above these blooming Aloe plants, stopped down my aperture and zoomed the lens while taking the exposure. There were lots of trashed shots, but I sort of liked the way this one came out. In any case, it was fun. This week may bring some odd effects while I try out some different creative techniques.

Just Wanna Be Left Alone

I'm gonna stay here in the big middle of everything, but don't be messing with me. I'm busy. Got it?

My First Moon

This is the first half-decent moon shot I've ever taken, and it was on a whim. Can't say I've actually even tried it before. Handheld between events at a track meet this week.

Poor Baby

Couldn't decide on a title for this one, either Taxed for April 15 OR simply Feeling Neglected.

Meet Gherkin

Gherkin is a frog who lives in our backyard. He got his name because when he's swimming he looks like a big dill pickle with legs.

There's a little game we play, he and I. He hears me walk into the yard and hops into the water. I let him stay for a few minutes, but because I don't think the chlorine is too good for him I scoop him out and put him back into the flower bed.

He's really a pretty little guy . . . for an ugly frog. His skin looks almost like a metallic gold in the sunlight. Maybe he's a prince, but I won't be kissing on him any time soon.
