Growing Family

The Dungum's (Dunn-Mangum Family) wanted a new photo to introduce their two soon to be daughters in love. I have been waiting for a family with enough guts and muscle to drag the living room sofa out into their front yard, so it worked out well for all of us.

They were great sports on a steamy hot evening. This is a beautiful and very fun family, and I love them all.

Mama Sorenson's Daylily

Passed down for at least four generations, this daylily got its start in my great grandmother's yard. Thanks to my mother, enough bulb sets have been salvaged and passed along so that my brothers and I as well as our aunts and uncles and cousins have them too. I guess that makes these an heirloom variety in their own right.

The heat has pretty well zapped mine for the rest of the year, but I can count on them coming back again.

Another image from my recent family shoot. Cute cute and very fun family. When we were nearly done with this series, their cat came to the back door and wanted in. He's in a few of the shots too.

I spent some time on PP work for these today and can share them with the family in the morning. Hope they like them.

Fete Noel

This beautiful family asked me to take portraits that they could use for their Christmas card -- but they didn't want to look particularly "Christmas-y"

Okay . . . I need to do some research on finding and using the appropriate accent marks to go with this headline, but I couldn't resist using a feet shot because the DP community seems to have a fantastic foot fetish.

We have some awesome photos . . . and I believe the family will be pleased, but the ZOWIE will come with a bit of PP work. I'm a bit overwhelmed, however, with the workflow issues because I want to be able to demonstrate the finished products but should probably let the family select their images and THEN do magic on them.

Going a little bit crazy this week . . . but hopefully once we get past a new PP learning curve it will all be worthwhile.

So . . . Whaddaya think? The chair in the background distracts me, so I think I'll work on it next.

Taps

Today we laid a hero to rest. Uncle Raymond was my grandmother’s baby brother and he was 94 years old. This may have been the only funeral ever to include both military honors at the cemetery, and a whoopee cushion salute at the reception.

Uncle Raymond was a WWII veteran who provided distinguished service as a Flight Officer and a Glider Pilot. He served in Germany during Operation Varsity, landing his glider behind enemy lines during the largest single-day airborne operation of the War. Most of the glider pilots did not survive their missions. He was the recipient of the Air Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Bronze Star.

He built his home with his own two hands. He raised countless dogs and a bit of wildlife as well as two outstanding sons. He loved his wife, kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and he taught us all how to live for the day. He took in countless troubled teen and preteen boys, giving them guidance and leadership. His vegetable garden was the standard by which all others are measured. He hunted, fished, photographed and filmed. He was the chief of the volunteer fire department and I can’t think of anything that he didn’t do and do well.

Most of all though, Uncle Raymond will be remembered as an outstanding storyteller and the king of practical jokes. The jokes and tricks he played on family, friends, and strangers could fill an entire book. Some were extremely elaborate while others were just silly, so it was only fitting that one of his granddaughters passed out whoopee cushions at the reception and asked everyone to blow them up and sit on them together. I believe I can still hear him chuckling over that sendoff.

If there was ever a great man, it was Uncle Raymond and we will miss him – but the world is truly a better place because he walked and worked in it for such a long time.

 . . . All is well . . . . safely rest . . . God is nigh!

GEEZER AND THE STUDS made their Rock Band debut yesterday afternoon in our gameroom. This is my dear sweet "old rocker" hubby with 60% of our progeny. So much for Silent Night.

Inspired by the wonderfully talented SP artists on this site, I decided to stick my toes (and only my toes) into the self portrait genre.

This father and daughter on the lower deck of the paddlewheel cruise were enjoying each other's company on a family vacation, removed from the daily grind, work pressure and peer pressure.

I hope they savor every golden moment they can grasp before her childhood fades into a photo album of memories and once upon a times.
