Dickey Box Nice Cars

Back in the old hometown last week, I just had to run out and grab a few images of this classic old car dealership. I don't know that too many people in Midland, TX think of this as a landmark, but to me it's a treasure that should be preserved. Cool structure, huh?

Back in the 1970's the dealership had a sign that said "Dickey Box Nice Cars," but someone must have decided to upgrade the venture to "Motor Company."

One of my high school friends had a stepfather who actually worked here as a salesman. We never knew when my friend would show up driving some new cute vehicle with dealer tags. She might have it for a day or two or maybe for a couple of weeks before she would give it back. Fun times -- we'd take that car to "Love's Burger Train" (but we all just called it Loves) for a French Vanilla Cherry Lemon Lime Sprite before driving by all the cute boys' houses.

Last time I looked, Loves had turned into a beauty shop. Dickey must have sold all of his cars after he changed his sign. And the Robert E. Lee High School Class of '78 did not have a 30 year reunion this year . . . sigh.

Secrets on the Playground

These best friends are about to be split apart for a while as one heads off to college and the other stays for her senior year in high school. We went back to their elementary school, and this spider web was the only piece of playground equipment that even existed when they went to school there.

Because we spent a couple of hours at three different locations it is way too hard to select just one photo, and I haven't even begun to process the batch. I've got some others that I MUST finish first . . . but you'll probably see another shot or two of these gals.

Love those mischevious smiles. Thanks girls -- for a very fun morning.

Swing Time

The old swingset behind the barn. At first I thought it might have actually been my swingset, but DOH -- we took ours with us when we moved and got many many good years of play on it. This one must have belonged to the family that rented the little house for so many years after we left. I'm sure those kids are all grown up with kids of their own by now too. They couldn't have loved swinging more than I did.

Sunflower in November

Last week I came home from the grocery store with a bundle of flowers that I just couldn't resist. Mike came out to help unload the car, so I handed them to him and said, "Look dear, you bought me flowers. "

He just laughed.

Then I walked inside and I was the one laughing. While I was shopping, he HAD gone out and bought flowers. There they were waiting for me on the kitchen table.

That's just a little history behind this not so happy looking sunflower. This is what's left of one of the blossoms. I simply couldn't toss it yet.

Corks -- So what's this deal with plastic?

Critique if you will, but please be gentle. No styling. No fancy lights. Just part of a back to the basics exercise on aperture/shutter speed with natural window lights on my black dining room table --- straight out of the camera with no PP work.

Any oenophiles will notice that we drink the "good stuff" Just like fashionistas have long known what great style come from Target.
