Meet My Mom!

Not too shabby for someone who's - mmmmmm -- old enough to be my mother.

We met her this weekend, and had a wonderful time together. She was my winery buddy while Mike, who doesn't quite appreciate wine, was our designated driver. What a deal!

I thought it was a travesty that my own mother didn't have a profile picture for her Facebook page, so she sat still long enough for this whether she liked it or not.

Ulterior motive . . . I didn't have a decent picture of her either. Now I do.

Mothers' Day Egg Toss

Every Mothers' Day our extended family gathers at my aunt and uncle's farm, and one traditional activity that we all look forward to is the egg toss. Everyone participates. Some people get pretty messy. This is my mother!

Here is the Means
To Cauterize Your Inside Seams -- Burma Shave

I think my parents may have written that little ditty. It was on a bottle of home-brewed pepper sauce that they made more than 20 years ago, and I believe it's still among my kitchen condiments somewhere. Anyway, I think of it nearly every time I put this wonderful concoction on my veggies.

For a major part of this week, I camped out in the Physician's Lounge at a local hospital taking headshots for a pictorial directory. I didn't move a thing to set up this shot, but liked the way the computer lights reflected off the bottle of pepper sauce on the table. It might be better without the stand-up newsletter in the background, but media is everywhere.

A little selective color, then some posterization for effect.

By the way, what does it mean if the salt shaker in a doctor's dining area is empty? Did they use it up when no patients were watching, or do they keep it empty for their own good health?

They taught me everything I know.

My mother and grandmother are here visiting for the weekend. They're fixing pot roast and okra gumbo for Patrick's birthday dinner, and it smells absolutely delish.

Dinner's at 7:00. The wine is already uncorked. C'mon in and stay a while. There's always room for one more.

PS -- "There's always room for one more" is the best lesson they ever taught.
