Speedy Spencer

Please allow me to indulge myself in showing off some of my cool relatives this week. This is my nephew as he finished the Lost Pines Turkey Trot 5K. (Doesn't even look like he's breathing hard, does he?)

Several of our family members took part in this hill-acious event on Friday morning. Dustin and two other people finished before the timekeepers were even ready to record times, but we know it was less than 20 minutes. I think Spencer was around 23 minutes. Quite impressive for a 7th grader. (Spencer, if you'll send me your time I'll correct it here)

My brothers and one sister in law all finished. Period. Pretty impressive for anyone if you ask me.

Cross Country Detail

"Stamina is utterly important. And stamina is only possible if it's managed well. People think all they need to do is endure one crazy intense, job-free creative burst and their dreams will come true. They are wrong, they are stupidly wrong" -- Hugh Macleod in "How to be Creative: 3. Put the hours in."

Just got back from another poorly internet-connected trip to see my mom. Great visit. Lots of catching up to do/continue. Busy day ahead!

Cross Country -- Helping Skinny Kids Make Friends Since 1972.

School started today, but the cross country kids got a jump on everyone at their meet this weekend. This is our Varsity Girls team.

The quote I used for my header? It's what our boys team has on the back of their t-shirts, and I thought it was hilarious. CC was founded in '72.

Go Coach, go!

This was an off week for the athletic teams, so the Cross Country team hosted a community fun run, the "First Annual." Our varsity runners participated and all the other kids and parents helped the make the event a smashing success.

This is one of our coaches at the finish line. I just liked the juxtaposition of him with the team's T-shirt slogan.

My biggest problem with photographing events for fun is that I am always torn between visiting and shooting. When I visit, I miss some awesome shots . . . but when I'm shooting, I miss getting to know the very very incredible individuals.

The funny thing about this race is that I didn't even start including the clock with runners until the runners coming in were the ones who probably didn't care about their times. I did learn that middle aged adults are much easier to photograph in action than teenagers. They just don't move as fast!

Here's a link to the rest of the pictures from the event. http://spccreative.smugmug.com/gallery/3521570

The Final Sprint

I didn't shoot this today, but I did a little PP work on photos from the Katy Invitational Cross Country meet and finally got those pictures posted for the runners and their parents to enjoy. This link should take you to additional photos from the event: http://www.spccreative.com/gallery/3435649#192692801

I love how these two were so in tune with each other geting to the finish line, and the other photographer adds a special touch for me. BTW -- if you haven't figured it out yet, the guys in blue are the good guys.

We have another meet in the morning and I think I'm as psyched as the kids are.

Near the finish line at Saturday's cross country meet, the baby (and attached daddy) belongs to our coach who is second from the right. I think he's going to grow up to be a very good runner because he already has his eye on the finish line. (Or maybe he thinks that bottle of water would taste pretty good about now.)
