Just a simple detail shot from a recent joyful event..

It seems like everywhere I go, people are up in arms and angry about things. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone would just sit down and have discussions over a cup of tea instead of throwing stones at each other?

Thank God for Little Red-Haired Girls

. . . she just made this shot, didn't she? Crown Fountain, Millennium Park, Chicago.

(Yes, both girls made the shot together, I'm just partial to . . . Auburn)

How High's the Water?

My friend, Lori, demonstrates how deep the water was on Galveston's Strand after Hurricane Ike. It's been right at 11 months since the storm devastated the entire island and much of the Houston area as well. We were amazed to see how much work has been done and how many businesses are open and ready for visitors. We had a wonderful getaway weekend.

World Famous Burgers

Our old hometown used to have a red and white cinder-block hamburger dive called Bob's Better Burger. It was all the way on the other side of town . . . probably a good 10-15 minutes drive. That seems so funny now, when it takes nearly10 minutes just to get out of our subdivision. Still, a trip to Bob's was a very special treat. And, Ohhhh . . . those were some good burgers.

Places like that -- and like this-- are few and far between now. We had to pull over so that I could grab a shot of this sign. 2-M's is still open and appears to be doing pretty brisk business, but you just can't count on these places and their wonderful old signs to be around the next time we pass by. This is a piece of Americana I wish we could bring back.

"Burgers and fries and cherry pies, Life was simple and good back then.
Walking in the sand, hand in hand, never thinking that it could end.
Makin' our love with the moon above at the drive in picture show
It was burgers and fries and cherry pies in a world we used to know." -- Charley Pride

What a hugely stormy rainy day. The rain gauge on the fence overflowed, so we don't know how much water fell on our house, but much of it runs off into the Barker Reservoir in George Bush Park.

After the skies cleared we took a little drive through the park to shake off the cabin fever that always seems worse when telephones, internet and cable all go down, disconnecting us from the world.
