If Life Gives You Lemons . . . Shut up and Eat Your Lemons.

I didn't put away the lemons from yesterday's picture, and couldn't resist playing with them to make a quick self portrait this morning. Simple one light bounced off the ceiling. Only took one shot but that's all I may have time to do for myself today.

Happy Saturday Everyone,

So THIS is where she's been hiding out! Didja miss me???

Once again I've been AWOL from the dailies. I had an opportunity to help a local antique/auction gallery photograph items from a huge estate for a catalog auction that will be held later this spring. The job turned out to be bigger than I expected, and the learning curve is a definite reality. The ambient lighting in this warehouse was . . . ummm . . . interesting to say the least.

This mirror is not the prettiest one I photographed, but I did stop to play with it just a bit. While I shot it straight-on, I rotated the angle in PS, then added John's watercolor effect (as best I can remember how he said to do it ) in honor of his birthday. Topped it off with a gradient from the lower corner just for fun.

In other words . . . I meant to do that!

ME!

Here's a HUGE salute to each of you who turns out wonderful SP's over and over. That's so much harder to do than it looks, and I'm asking -- BEGGING for your advice and suggestions!
(not that I plan to make the SP thing a regular event, but it is a skill I need to improve)

I had my lights and backdrop set up, and was waiting for people to come in for headshots, so I decided to play around a bit. First because autofocus would have picked up on the backdrop, I put a big cardboard sign on my stool and focused manually on that. Then I used my timer and ran around to try and put my face in the right place. It would have been comical to watch, and when someone walked in I jumped up and said I was "playing with my lights." That part was kind of embarrassing, but not too much. I don't get embarrassed like I used to.

This is a pretty serious crop because I was about out of the frame anyway. There was nothing more to leave in at the top left, and I've become a fan of very tight headshots.

I've never considered myself very photogenic and now have decided that I probably don't wear enough makeup, but I kind of liked this one because I look happy and not too goofy.

Ran it through several different filters before I picked this one with a friendly glamor/faded effect. It is what it is -- and that's my Picture of the Day and I'm a stickin' to it.
Shelly > Photographing so many beautiful and fun-loving women at the Girlfriends Giggle was a blast, and I am honored to be able to support the mission of the Fort Bend Women's Center by volunteering my services for the evening and returning a portion of my proceeds from your purchases to the center.

I would love to work with you again in a more relaxed setting where I can pay specific attention to the details that will make your own personality shine. I can come to you, so please keep me in mind when it's time for family portraits, senior pictures, lifestyle images of your kids, or even a portrait party, boudior photo party or special event. I GUARANTEE that we'll have fun, and you will be delighted with your images.

Shelly > Here I have used a brown monochrome color treatmentof the previous picture for the tables but have restored the natural coloring of just the background mirror.

How about a little Self Portraiting for a Friday evening? This is in the entry to a little apartment, I think, somewhere in downtown Galveston. I happened upon it last month when I went out to shoot before our staff meeting began.

This gives me a good excuse to share our crazy telephone week story. It all started when my hubby, Mike's, company changed cell phone providers. Mike spent a good long while last weekend programming numbers into his new razor phone. Then, on Monday when the phones were activated, the "your number is . . . " screen popped up with a phone number he had never seen in his life. He thought that was a bit odd, so called his cell from his desk phone . . . and someone else answered. This person was on his way to a meeting in Dallas -- with Mike's phone. Another person had the Dallas traveler's phone, and in the end, 45 people had the wrong cell phones.

I think they should get everyone together in one room and start calling all the numbers. If yours rings, you're the winner. In any case, I would certainly hate to be the person responsible for all the phones.

THEN last night while I was at an event (those photos will come later) MY cell phone rang. It was noisy in there, so I didn't answer. When I got to my car, the voice mail was from my son, Ian. He was calling from a number I didn't recognize. He said that when his girlfriend called our house, another lady answered. Ian didn't know about Mike's phone mixup, so when he tried to call Mike on cell, he got a gentleman named Roy in Dallas. When I called the unrecognizable number that Ian had called from and that was now stored in my cell phone, it rang at our house. When I called OUR number, our next door neighbor answered. The phone company can't even come out and fix this until tomorrow so all day we've been telling callers that we're on "Trading Spaces" If they want to reach the neighbors, they'll have to call our house.

As Ian puts it . . . "Welcome to the Twilight Zone."
